Chesterfield County police are investigating an incident in which a man apparently tried to pick up an 8-year-old Chester boy after he had been dropped at his school-bus stop.

The suspicious incident occurred between 2:55 and 3:10 p.m. June 3, but was not reported to police until the child approached an off-duty officer visiting Curtis Elementary School on Tuesday, authorities said.

According to the boy's account, a man approached him at a school bus stop on Hyde Park Drive, telling the youth that he had been sent by the boy's mother to pick him up. The boy immediately fled.

Police described the suspect as white, 35 to 45 years old with a thin build, collar-length brown hair and brown eyes. He wore a red and blue shirt with white shoes, and may be driving a red, four-door pickup truck with a camper shell.

Anyone with information can call Chesterfield police at (804) 748-1251 or Crime Solvers at (804) 748-0660.
