Chesterfield police officer involved in three-car crash
Chesterfield County police are investigating a three-car wreck yesterday that involved an officer's cruiser and left one person with serious injuries.
An officer on patrol was driving a marked cruiser west on Beulah Road shortly after 1 p.m., when an eastbound car turned in front of the cruiser and they collided, said Chesterfield police Capt. Kevin Smith.
The car that collided with the police cruiser then struck a car that was on Mason Crest Drive, Smith said.
The officer was treated for minor injuries. The driver of the car that had turned in front of the cruiser was taken to VCU Medical Center with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, Smith said. The driver of the third car was unhurt.
Smith said the police car was not responding to a call and did not have its flashing lights activated. He declined to discuss how fast the cars were traveling or to identify any of the drivers.
No charges had been placed.
