A Dinwiddie County man wanted in connection with a fatal car crash early Saturday surrendered to Chesterfield police today.

Justin B. Fitzgerald, 22, of the 20000 block of Eastside Lane, is being held in Chesterfield County Jail and faces a court hearing tomorrow.

Fitzgerald is charged with involuntary manslaughter and hit-and-run driving outside the restrictions of a suspended driver's license, Chesterfield authorities said.

Ronald A. Stephenson II, 21, of Chesterfield, a passenger in the car allegedly driven by Fitzgerald, died when the car crashed early Saturday morning in the 3600 block of Thurston Road.

This is so sad, I bet this young man would do anything if he could turn back time. It is my understanding he and the victim were good friends. The worse punishment he will endure will be knowing he is responsible for his friends untimely death.

Chances are that this young man was drunk and that is why he left the scene.  It’s no excuse, but i bet he was thinking it would have been worse on him with getting a DUI and Involuntary murder charge.  God Bless the family and pull them through this terrible tragedy…
