Chesterfield County police have one man in custody after shots were fired into two houses this morning.

In each case, multiple shots were fired into a house while someone was home, and in each case no one was injured, said police Lt. Doug Mooney.

It was unknown whether there's a connection between the two incidents.

"We are looking to see if we can tie them together," Mooney said this morning. The first incident happened about 6:45 a.m. in the 4100 block of Berrybrook Drive, just east of Hopkins Road near the Chippenham Parkway.

In the second case, multiple rounds were fired about 7:20 a.m. into a house in the 4100 block of Woodfield Road, north of Belmont Road and also near Chippenham.

Police detained a man for questioning but had not placed charges. Authorities did not immediately identify the man.

Please believe that Chesterfield is not exempt from crime nor is any other county in this area.

Not so. I grew up in Chesterfield for 65 years in the Bensley area (stop 20). We never had to lock our houses or take the keys out of our vehicle ignitions. Try that now. In short we didn’t know what crime was. Now that the hoodies and low riding pants have migrated it’s a different story.

Chesterfield needs to increase police presence to the point that these hoods can’t cough without the cops knowing who and where they are. Perhaps they will flee back to south Richmond or east end Henrico.

Until recently some of my family lived down in Chester. I lived there quite a few years myself. Once upon a time that was a low crime area. Everyone knew everyone; not necessary to lock doors. NOW its a totally different scene. The county police can’t get a true grip on all the punks running ‘round gangsta style (although they seem to be trying).

Its actually safer here in the city. Sounds crazy—I know it does—but that’s been my observation.

I think most of the crime associated with Richmond is in South Richmond/Chesterfield, and Henrico’s East End. I don’t see where Richmond City has much crime at all now that the number one criminal, Dougie Wilder is finally out of office and out of power.

I feel much better walking around in Chesterfield and Henrico than I would in the crime ridden city of Richmond

“Crime the norm in Richmond”  give me a break!  Crime is the norm every where.  Please believe that Chesterfield is not exempt from crime nor is any other county in this area.

As the migration of Richmond’s south side increases into Chesterfield so has the violence and criminal activities that is the norm in Richmond. The decline in personal safety has driven long time residents out of their neighborhoods allowing even more space for this element to move into.

Chesterfield should take immediate steps to increase police in these areas 24/7 so that any criminal or violent activity is immediately known. Chesterfield judges should give the maximum sentences to every one brought before them.
