Typical City of Richmond foolishness: Strip a quarter of a million dollars from the police department and put it towards fan party patrol, more “study” money for Shockoe Bottom (I am sure this fits nicely into Ellen Robertson’s free lunch plan), the city attorney continuing education plan (every other professional has to fund their own C.E. plans on their own). How about the near half a million dollars in summer youth employment? Maybe they should pick up shifts at McDonald’s or Burger King like the rest of us did or shucking corn or picking crab meat. Why should we rob the police to hire kids to hang out in city hall right now?

This city is freakin’ ridiculous!

For “Churchill”, the budget item for the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s office is new money.  It is a restoration of the salary supplements that were paid last year. The amazing part of this story is that there is so little story.  There was never more than $3million in difference between the mayor’s proposal and the council’s working drafts…an amazing degree of agreement on a $629 million dollar budget.  Remember that Jones inherited a $19 million deficit when he took office.

$29,970 for city attorney continuing education?  Are you kidding me? Can’t lawyers afford to advance their own education? This is ridiculous. Ditto the proposed $355k hike in commonwealth’s attorney office salaries.

Definitely do NOT cut back on law enforcement funding. RPD has been doing a fantastic job in recent years—what can you expect if you cut a good thing in half? Answer: You’ll get half of a good thing.

What’s with the reduction in funding for the POLICE DEPARTMENT here? Don’t the men & women who put their lives on the line for us deserve better. I hear the mayor will fix it tonight so they won’t get step increases for 3 years. How much is going out for Commonwealth Attorneys (salary INCREASES??) and Finance Personnel?? Just wait till our police officers pack up and leave. I won’t blame them. Who will keep you safe then? Commonwealth Attorneys?

While I question some of the politics and actions of the ‘Party Patrol’, there’s a reason why it exists- inconsiderate college kids. Its not just the Fan that is experiencing problems.

It would be nice if VCU and its students took some responsibility and did not force taxpayers to pay for additional enforcement of laws.

Are you kidding me?  $ 7,500 INCREASE for the FAN PARTY PATROL?  These guys ride around trying to “bust parties” - the City is going to FUND this?  While taking away money from organizations that are trying to reduce homelessness?

What’s more important Mayor?  Getting homeless people off the street and in a structured environment or funding an over-zealous Fan Community that has nothing better to do with their time than trying to crack down on parties?

Do VCU and their students bring money to Richmond?  Let the Uppity Fan Neighborhood Association deal with their own issues - don’t fund them!

I like what I see. More money for James River Park makes a lot of sense given its amount of use.

The convention center, like 6th Street Marketplace, has been a huge white elephant and deserves to be cut.

Now, if we can only recover the monies wasted on Center Stage…
