Woman dies after police pursuit in Short Pump

A woman died yesterday of injuries suffered when she wrecked her vehicle while being pursued by Henrico County police.

Henrico police said an officer attempted to pull the woman over for speeding along West Broad Street in Short Pump on Saturday about 11:30 p.m.

"She continued on, lost control of the vehicle, striking a tree on Springfield Road," said Henrico Lt. J.C. Holmes Sr.

Holmes said the crash occurred less than five minutes after the pursuit began. The woman was taken to VCU Medical Center.

Police are withholding the victim's name pending notification of relatives.

Holmes said the fatality is under investigation.
