A Waterbury, Ct., man died this afternoon when the U-Haul trailer he was towing collided with a tractor-trailer, causing it to overturn, on southbound Interstate 85 in Dinwiddie County, Virginia State Police said.

Edmund J. Brucato Jr., 66, was pronounced dead at the scene after the tractor-trailer overturned onto his car and trailer, said state police Lt. Tom Cunningham. The truck driver, Daryl L. Moore, 39, of Emporia, escaped injury.

The wreck occurred about 2:30 p.m. as Brucato, pulling the U-Haul trailer behind a Ford Taurus, attempted to switch from the left lane to the right lane on I-85, about a mile north of state Route 40 in Dinwiddie.

During the process, Brucato's trailer struck the front of the tractor-trailer, causing both vehicles to veer off the road to the right. The rig then overturned onto its side and on top of Brucato's car and U-Haul trailer, which had separated, Cunningham said.

No charges have been filed in connection with the crash, but Cunningham said the wreck remains under investigation.
