Man charged with attempted abduction

Henrico County police have arrested a county man in an abduction attempt of a 4-year-old girl.

William Scott Baker, 46, is scheduled to make a court appearance today after bystanders and relatives of the child detained Baker in a parking lot in the 4000 block of Cox Road, police said.

Police said the incident shortly after 7 p.m. Saturday at the Innsbrook Shoppes apparently began when a man attempted to abduct the child as she was getting into a car with two adults.

Police said there is no known relationship between Baker and the child.

Baker, of the 3000 block of Dunwick Road near Interstate 64 and Staples Mill Road in Henrico, is charged with three counts of assault, public drunkenness and attempted abduction.
