ALEXANDRIA -- Voters have narrowly elected Democrat Charniele L. Herring to fill the seat of former Del. Brian Moran of Alexandria.

With all precincts reporting last night, the Virginia State Board of Elections said Herring received 50.18 percent of the vote in the heavily Democratic 46th House District. Republican congressional aide Joe Murray received 49.55 percent of the vote.

Moran stepped down from his Virginia House seat and leadership post as head of the Democratic Caucus last month to run for governor full time.

Less than 6 percent of registered voters participated in the election.

Will there be a recount given how close the election was?

The Republican lost by less than one point in that district? Good news.
