Details of the proposed Fort Lee hotel
The proposed plan
The $114 million project awaits the completion of an environmental-impact process and congressional approval.Size: An Army facility with 900 rooms and 100 suites. At 15 stories, the lodge would be about 155 feet tall, about three times taller than any other building on the base. Existing buildings on the installation do not exceed five stories.
Amenities: A lobby and registration area, a restaurant, meeting rooms, study rooms, guest storage, fitness areas, administrative offices, guest laundries and in-house laundry.
Parking: The facility would have paved areas with parking for 850 vehicles.
Location: On a 26-acre parcel adjacent to the Army Logistics University complex. Buildable area is about 18.7 acres.
Timeline: If approved, construction is expected to begin this year and the facility would be completed by 2012. But the project may be delayed since Fort Lee has agreed to extend the public comment period on the project until Oct. 7 and requests for more time have been made by members of Congress.
The building: Would be constructed with precast concrete, brick and stucco, with either masonry or stucco corner accents, sills and lintels, and would have banding accent features and a metal roof. The design and equipment selection would meet all requirements for U.S. Green Building Council compliance at the "Silver" level, as defined in the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design.
