‘Day of Design’ will tour local treasures
A Day of Design, sponsored by the Richmond chapter of the International Furnishings and Design Association, will be held Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The event will include visits to some of Richmond's historic treasures.
The morning session (9 a.m. to noon), open to design professionals only, will be held at the historic Bolling-Haxall House, 211 E. Franklin St.
A lecture series will be moderated by Candace Ord Manroe, senior interior design editor of "Traditional Home" magazine. Featured speakers will be Barry Dixon of Barry Dixon Interiors and Jared Miller of Jared Miller LLC. Dixon and Miller will discuss the keys to managing a successful business in today's market.
The afternoon session (2-6 p.m.), open to the public, begins with a tour of the 2008 Richmond Symphony Orchestra League Designer House, 5511 Cary Street Road. It will be followed by a wine and hors d'oeuvres reception with Dixon and Manroe.
"Barry Dixon Interiors," written by Brian Coleman and photographed by Edward Addeo, will be for sale. Dixon will sign copies, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting Embrace Richmond, a local furniture bank that supplies gently used furniture at no cost to those in need.
Embrace Richmond is the International Furnishings and Design Association Richmond chapter's charitable partner.
Tickets can be purchased for the full day's events or separately for morning and afternoon sessions.
