Obama heckled during speech to Congress

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The nastiness of August's health care debate reached into the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday as President Barack Obama tried to move his reform plan forward.

South Carolina Republican Rep. Joe Wilson shouted "You lie!" after Obama had talked about illegal immigrants.

It wasn't the only interruption during Obama's speech to a joint session of Congress in the House of Representatives.

Earlier, Republicans laughed when Obama acknowledged that there are still significant details to be worked out before a health care overhaul can be passed.

Wilson's outburst caused Obama to pause briefly before he went on with his speech. Overhead in the visitors' gallery, first Lady Michelle Obama shook her head from side to side.

Why are we even debating this debacle?  Unemployment is at 10%.  10%!!! and our deficit has tripled!!!If Bush/Reagan etc. were in office - heck anyone, it would be shouted from the rooftops and they would call for his head.

The hypocrisy of the media is appalling, Obama is the worst President this country has ever seen, and I can only hope and pray that there will not be another.  We can’t “afford” it.

“Anyone ever heard of a forged green card?  When the illegals are granted amnosity (and they will be) prior legal citizens will all be paying a lot more in taxes to suppose them.“ -Anonymous

As to the first point, I was under the impression that the new technologies that were to be implemented under the previous administration were going to make it much harder to forge official documents.

As to the rest, all I can say is “huh?“.

I am curious, though… how much of what you posted was written by somebody else?

JOE WILSON FOR PRESIDENT. OUT OF ORDER—BUT NOT A LIAR…Fortunately, the Michael Moore sabotage video techniques are now
being turned on the liberal whacko’s. And you will see more and more
revealing exposes on the twerps in the government. Get ready. Obama and his minions will be a one term mistake. They will not change the world—They and they alone will be changed.  So
while you all are arguing about the what ifs—forget it.. After Saturday 9/12/09 and other exposes on the real television news and various suits from the private sector…there will be no more mirage. The wizard will be revealed from behind his curtain…
We the people, don’t like him or his administration or his health “care” approach. And WE decide what we want. Its that simple. The USA may have become a land of sheep but there are still enough real citizens to clean up the mess. Wag on all you want about what you think they are going to do to you—they’re not going to get to first base…Obama (like ACORN and Peolosi) are
indeed liars and are quickly coming to their due exposure in the light. Joe
Wilson will go down in history as the man who broke the rules that broke the
chain. Finally, a republican does unto the others what they have been doing all along. Thanks Joe. You told the truth. That’s much more than Charles B. Rangel, Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee who conveniently forgot a half million or so in income—but he’s still on the job—But not for long.

Well I’m not gonna send you my medical records or my invoices but here it is. Received a diagnosis of breast cancer summer of 2005, had surgery to remove cancer fall 2005, radiation treatments winter of 2005 and early 2006. Total cost over 100,000 dollars of money I did not and do not have.  But…I did have health insurance.  Jack I pray that nothing like this happens to you and yours or Joe Wilson.  You’re obviously more interested in the political posturing than in offering a solution.  And remember these words…the mercy you show will be the mercy that is shown to you.

Regardless of how this package gets re-packaged.
Obama used iffy math on deficit pledge.
President Obama used only-in-Washington accounting Wednesday when he promised to overhaul the nation’s health care system without adding “one dime” to the deficit. By conventional arithmetic, Democratic plans would drive up the deficit by billions of dollars.

A look at some of Obama’s claims and how they square with the facts or the fuller story:

OBAMA: “I will not sign a plan that adds one dime to our deficits either now or in the future. Period.“
FACT: Though there’s NO final plan yet, the White House and congressional Democrats already have shown they’re ready to skirt the no-new-deficits pledge.
House Democrats offered a bill that the Congressional Budget Office said would add $220 billion to the deficit over 10 years. But Democrats and Obama administration officials claimed the bill actually was deficit-neutral. They said they simply didn’t have to count $245 billion of it - the cost of adjusting Medicare reimbursement rates so physicians don’t face big annual pay cuts.
Their reasoning was that they already had decided to exempt this “doc fix” from congressional rules that require new programs to be paid for. In other words, it doesn’t have to be paid for because they decided it doesn’t have to be paid for.
The administration also said that since Obama already had included the doctor payment in his 10-year budget proposal, it didn’t have to be counted again.
OBAMA: “The reforms I’m proposing would not apply to those who are here illegally.“
FACT: The facts back up Obama. The House version of the health care bill explicitly prohibits spending any federal money to help illegal immigrants get health care coverage.  Republicans say there are not sufficient citizenship verification requirements to ensure illegal immigrants are excluded from benefits they are not due.

i have suggested solutions so many times its
‘s not funny. problem is your not listening.  1.  first off clean up medicare by stopping paying for meds and services the wealthy could afford to pay for themselves   called net worth means testing.  you no like those scooters from the scooter store. 2. second run all the illegals out of the country. 3 third stop all the law suits [like the ones you see advertised on tv about having surgery and the result does not turn out well]  what ever happened to accepting the risk of making the decision to have the surgery? 4. find a way to make the people who abuse the system [you know the people who use ambulances for taxi’s and doctors for someone to talk to]pay for there misuse of the system and maybe they will stop. 5. cut taxes so people can afford health insurance on there own without a government hand out. 6 allow people to buy insurance to cover major surgeries, hospital stays, emergency room visits and long term care. and them pay for doctor’s office visits and physicals out of pocket. i could go on but i am going on to long as it is… how   about   that counter offer   and standing up to defend freedom is not whining!

Pay attention to the last one, particularly. By the American Journal of Medicine, it states that bankruptcies due to medical problems went from 8% in 1981 to 62% in 2007.

It also states that the odds of a bankruptcy having a medical cause increased by a factor of 2.38 comparing 2001 to 2007.

That’s only covering the financial ruination of people’s lives. Do you really have any doubt that people don’t actually die from lack of treatment in this country? I can go through and find articles and sources for that, too, but I’d rather hear your contest of contest the claim first.

If I’m not mistaken, the money from Bush was taxable.

And I’m guessing your talking about the pension you mentioned earlier? Again, the information related to that is readliy available, I found it after your first post in about 5 seconds on Google:

So again, I still see no lie.

People are losing their lives and livelyhoods because of lack of health insurance.

Is that a out of thin air statement or do you have verifiable documentation you can share with us to confirm it? If so please post the links or sources.

Joe Wilson and the Republican Party are a train wreck”

I hardly think so. Joe Wilson has forced the democrats to take steps to write language to prohibit illegals from getting healthcare.

WASHINGTON (AP) - Health care negotiators in the Senate pressed for a way to ensure that illegal immigrants can’t get access to government-funded insurance, a contentious issue now front and center after a Republican congressman’s outburst during President Barack Obama’s speech.

The issue is one of several thorny problems that came up as a small group of negotiators on the Senate Finance Committee met Friday morning. Finance Chairman Max Baucus, D-Mont., is aiming to finalize legislation on Obama’s health overhaul by next week - though whether it’s bipartisan or not remains to be seen.

Members of the group said they thought they’d settled the question of illegal immigration, but it came to the fore this week when Republican Rep. Joe Wilson shouted “You lie” at Obama during his speech Wednesday. Obama had said illegal immigrants wouldn’t be covered under his health plan.

Senators said that’s forced the committee to work on provisions verifying legal status before an individual can get coverage.

“We’ve always been there, but we have to make sure to get the right process and language,“ said Sen. Olympia Snowe, R-Maine, one member of the so-called Gang of Six of three Republicans and three Democrats whom Baucus is leading.

Such verification can be tricky. Many Democrats fear that verification procedures keep legal residents from getting insurance, and in the House, they rejected Republican attempts to add verification requirements to the House health care bill.

The negotiators put off extensive discussion of the illegal immigration issue until Monday and said aides would be working on language on that and abortion over the weekend.

Friday’s session focused largely on how an expansion of Medicaid would affect states, and on possible provisions to keep down medical malpractice costs.

The prognosis for bipartisan resolution remained cloudy, with Baucus prepared to go it alone even without Snowe and Republican Sens. Chuck Grassley of Iowa and Mike Enzi of Wyoming.

Snowe said she still couldn’t predict whether they’d reach consensus - or whether Baucus would be able to count on her vote.

“I can’t answer that at this point. We’re working through all these issues and we’ll see where it goes from there when we finalize everything,“ Snowe said.

The question could be answered as early as Monday when the group meets again.

“Obviously we’ll find out who wants to support the (bill) and who doesn’t,“ Baucus said. “I’m hopeful that there will be bipartisan support. And I’ll keep working on it frankly over the weekend, on the telephone talking to people, so on and so forth.“

Enzi declined to comment Friday and Grassley participated in the meeting by phone from Iowa.
