Tuckahoe Middle will not get international baccalaureate program next school year

Citing concerns about displacing students, the Henrico County school board decided not to open a new International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program at Tuckahoe Middle School next year.

The planned 450-seat expansion at Fairfield Middle School will continue as planned.

In October, the board voted to enlarge the program, as parents have wished, from 650 seats at Moody Middle School to Fairfield Middle in the eastern end of the county and Tuckahoe Middle in the western part.

But with a massive redistricting project under way, board members heard from parents, mostly in western Henrico, concerned about displacing students as a result of adding 450 international baccalaureate seats to Tuckahoe while re-drawing boundary lines.

Tonight, members heard several options, but the board voted to scrap the Tuckahoe initiative.

Henrico County, eh? You mean Mrs. Biddle wasn’t able to sway the Board? Tsk, tsk.

Good for you Tuckahoe!
