hhgregg coming to Richmond

Indianapolis-based consumer electronics and appliance retailer hhgregg announced this morning that it would expand into the Richmond market.

The company said that it would open as many as 22 stores nationwide this fiscal year. It had originally planned to open 16 to 18. The expansion will include three multi-store markets, including Tampa, Memphis and Richmond.

"During the past year, competitive dynamics within the consumer electronics industry and the real estate landscape have changed considerably, with a major competitor exiting the market and substantial real estate availability in both new and existing markets," the company said in a statement.

It is unclear where the Richmond stores will be located.

Area real estate brokers have said in recent months that hhgregg has been looking at six vacant Circuit City locations and has shown a particular interest at the Short Pump Town Center location. -- Louis Llovio

Great.  Another retailer trying to sell $30 HDMI cables and extended warranties.

This is a good thing.  Since Circuit City closed, Best Buy employees have gotten more surly.

I know a guy training for HHGreg and I do know they are taking over the Short Pump CC retail building.

We have several HHG stoes in Alabama, they have a great variety of products and knowlegable staff to assist with your purchases. But buyer beware of their 14 day return policy. We purchased several appliances and a 50” plasma TV housewarming gift for our new home in May 2009, but it was 25 days before we were able to un box and install the TV. We found the screen to be shattered. They just say sorry, against our policy to exchange. So do not buy an electronic product from them and wrap it it up as a future gift without testing first, we learned our 1,250.00 corporate policy lesson the hard way.

great, now if they could just come to a previous circuit city spot other than short pump or far hull street that would be great.  sick of everything new to richmond going to short pump.  let’s also try to get them to move their headquarters here…there is a lot of office space off gaskins road.

Another poorly written and researched article.  The Chesterfield Observer reported a couple of months ago that hhgregg was going in Hancock Village on 360.  Do some work RTD!

I’ve also been to the one in Charlotte, and to me HHG seems no different then any of the other big box stores, don’t get me wrong I’m glad they will be coming to Richmond with job opportunities, but you can get anything they will sell a lot cheaper on the internet.  The only downfall in that is that if its broken, you can’t actually go to a person and yell at them.

I’ve been to one of these in Charlotte… Definitely a good alternative to BB. They also have very knowledgeable employees.
