Man charged with killing wife in Louisa
Forrest Smythers is charged with first-degree murder in the death of his wife.
Louisa County authorities have charged a man with killing his wife yesterday.
Deputies were summoned shortly after 8 p.m. to a home on South Branch Drive after receiving a call from a relative of the family.
There, they found Forrest Smythers Jr., 53, armed with a gun, and they took him into custody, sheriff's Maj. Donald A. Lowe said in a news release.
Authorities also found Smythers' wife, Dawn D. Smythers, 52, dead inside the home of what appeared to be a single gunshot.
The pair had been married about 25 years, Lowe said.
Investigators also discovered "a substantial amount of material appearing to be marijuana and other related items," the news release said.
Forrest Smythers was charged with first-degree murder, use of a firearm in a felony, possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of a controlled substance with the intent to distribute.
Smythers was due in court today for a bond hearing.
Reader Reactions
AC, what a derogatory comment for Mrs. Dawn Smythers family to have to read.
I pray for her family and friends during this tragic time in their lives and may God bring them peace and comfort.
Looks like a nice guy. I can see him holding an axe, but not a gun.
