A hunter who died of an accidental shotgun wound Saturday in Charles City County was identified yesterday as Keith Andrew Murphy, 42, of Glen Allen.

A spokeswoman for the state Department of Game and Inland Fisheries said no charges have been filed in the matter and that an investigation is continuing.

Julia Dixon said Murphy had finished hunting with another man and a 14-year-old on private property near the intersection of Barretts Road and state Route 5 when a shotgun used by the other adult, the uncle of the youngster, discharged. The shooting occurred about 1:30 p.m. as the three stood near a vehicle after finishing hunting for the day.

Sloppy and irresponsible. The person should be charged with unintentional manslaughter.
