King and Queen high school closed after vandalism
KING AND QUEEN -- Authorities closed Central High School early today after they discovered the building had been broken into and vandalized, the county superintendent of schools said.
A dairy delivery driver noticed the school had been broken just before 5 a.m., said Superintendent Richard W. Layman.
Amid concern that a suspect could possibly still be inside the building, officials closed the school and the sheriff's department and State Police began a room-by-room search, Layman said.
"We were not about to have anyone in the building until we knew it was absolutely safe," he said.
The school will reopen Monday.
A monetary damage estimate was not immediately available, but Layman said the vandalism included damage to doors, cabinetry, the JROTC room and the principal's office. He said it appeared that someone had gone through keys in lockboxes.
So far, he said, officials have not confirmed any thefts from the school.
Layman said the Central High community is proud of the school's academic achievements and was disappointed to see the building damaged.

I don’t mean this in response to any one person who has posted. It’s just a general point I’ve thought about making in an online comment section for some time:
So the old days were better?
You mean 40-50 years ago? When people in America discriminated against every group of people you can think of, and blacks weren’t allowed to use public restrooms and had to ride on the back of the bus?
Are those the days when people had old-fashioned values that have been lost?
As time passes on, good and bad facets of human behavior are lost and gained.
Oops..spelling correction, last paragraph of previous post, should have been ‘apprehended’.
Legal American..
I agree with your comments totally.
So much of society has changed for the worse, not necessarily for the better in the last 40-50 years.
The family unit that I knew as a child is a rarity nowadays.
The sense of entitlements of so many have has long passed the point of disgust.
Unfortunately there are no easy answers or quick fixes, just lost children that will produce more lost children. We will be expected to pick up the tab for them.
This country is in the last days of the Roman Empire. The handwriting is on the wall, but no one is reading.
Until then, a fitting punishment for the hooligans when they are apprended might be to clean out spectic tanks, clean storm sewers or muck a few horse stalls to earn money. They should have to repay every penny of damages the school incurred through their acts. After all, they are already sewerage so they should feel right at home on their JOB.
anon…you are speaking of the PAST…today most kids don’t have a DADDY!...there is no responsibility taught at home because it is hard for all these single mothers who HAVE NEVER been married to try to tell their children THE RIGHT THING TO DO! When children are raised for financial gain and prosperity they realize it in their teenage years and a lot of anger builds up—vandalism, gang-joining (a fact about gangs most kids join gangs for a SENSE OF BELONGING AND FAMILY), graffitti, as well as teenage murders just keep increasing…BAD ATTENTION is better than no attention at all! Most of these mothers have no idea where or what their children are doing and society is PAYING THE PRICE TEN FOLD! When something tragic happens they cry the loudest and hardest and expect society to help with the funeral costs as well! GO FIGURE!
In the late 1960s I lived across the street from Albert Hill Middle School (Richmond).
One Sunday morning I looked out the window and saw a neigbhorhood kid cleaning off spray painted graffiti on the side of the building. A few feet behind him was his father with a belt
in hand. Every now and again, dad gave son a lick on his behind. I could see that his dad was not beating this kid unmerficully.
A few days later, I ran into the boy and asked what had happened. Seems he and a friend were bored so they decided to spray paint stupid things on the school building. Evidently someone had seen the kids in action and informed the parents.
The boys turned into law abiding citizens, not juvenile deliquents.
My parents would have done the same thing to me for pulling this kind of stunt.
Parents, if you know HOW, start teaching your children that they are responsible for their actions. There are consquences when you do not follow the straight and narrow.
This is just the beginning…kids are now subjected to stealing to maintain their extravagant lifestyles that their parents who have been laid off or better yet can not find a place to get DONATIONS because of the economic times CAN AFFORD to keep giving them! Those single income kids with cell phones, those two income kids with all the latest fashions, electronics, and gadgets…THIS ECONOMIC “DEPRESSION” is affecting everyone…so start locking up your cars, homes, and it will get worst as Christmas approaches…SO BE CAREFUL! Perhaps everyone will start saving now and get rid of their useless expenses…one can only hope!
