A $250,000 winning lottery ticket is about to become worthless.

The ticket matched the first five numbers but missed the Mega Ball in the March 3 Mega Millions drawing. The ticket will expire if it is not claimed by 5 p.m. on Aug. 31.

The ticket was bought at Royal Mart in Highland Springs.

The winning numbers were 26-32-35-43-52 and the Mega Ball was 10.

If nobody claims the prize, it will go to the state Literary Fund, which is used for educational uses such as school construction, renovation and teacher retirement funding. Since its inception in 1988, the Virginia Lottery has transferred more than $176.8 million in unclaimed prizes to the fund.
