McAuliffe, in race for governor, promises business plan for Virginia
Published: January 7, 2009
-- And then there were three.
Terry McAuliffe, former chairman of the Democratic National Committee, today formally entered the Democratic campaign for governor, joining former Del. Brian Moran and state Sen. Creigh Deeds of Bath County in pursuit of a nomination that will be settled in an open-to-all primary on June 9.
McAuliffe is talking up his credentials as a successful investor and business owner. In Richmond at this hour, at a town-hall-style session at the Science Museum of Virginia, McAuliffe promised that as governor he would craft a "business plan" for Virginia.
McAuliffe's candidacy has been an open secret for months, and today's announcement -- in a statewide swing -- is the final step in a lengthy political strip tease.
McAuliffe started the day in Norfolk. In his Richmond appearance McAuliffe said he will not criticize his Democratic rivals: instead, he said, he will attack the all-but-official Republican nominee, Attorney General Bob McDonnell.
McAuliffe said McDonnell had opposed then-Gov. Mark R. Warner on a popular tax-fattened plan to boost spending for schools, police and human services.
He also faulted McDonnell for opposing Gov. Timothy M. Kaine on new funds for transportation.
McAuliffe is hoping to capitalize on his status as a newcomer to Virginia politics.
In his remarks, he promised to shake up Richmond, adding that the capital does not have a monopoly on all ideas.

Aside from the personal attacks back and forth in the posts below ...
If you are a Republican, you feel compelled to blister him and dig up whatever ills you can muster whether from Washington (careful, you guys had the WH and Congress for a long time) and VA (careful, you’ve had both houses of the GA for a long time). Perhaps it would be more persuasive to identify the management, leadership and progress of Republican admins. I’ll look for that itemization, because it will be interesting to see what anyone can come up with.
That said, I didn’t like the last paragraph of the article. I believe that TM will rue the day he said that. It comes off not as a slap at the GA but against Richmond itself. He can’t and won’t win without huge support here, period. If he is such an experienced old pol, he ought to know better.
Randy, You watch too many FOX NEWS shouting matches.
Dear Celtworm. Thank you for the heads up, but, really, I know exactly what I’m saying and to whom I’m saying it and it doesn’t bother me in the least. I’ve read your posts regarding the GOP and, frankly, you have no room to criticize anyone for anything.
Yes, I let Zero have it - did you read his posts? Of course you did and you must have found his insults acceptable - but, of course you do, because you share his worldview, although I’ll give you credit for being a more coherent writer despite your political views.
You and I have two different world views. You’ve deflected the weakness of your position by trying to talk about some bizarre form of etiquette you apply to me but no one else including yourself. The one time you attempted substance, it appeared that you’d never read a history book or had a rudimentary understanding of economics, social science or anything beyond having read reports issued by Media Matters, ACORN and MoveOn.org. My response was accurate, factual and was agreed upon both another poster who amplified my point by pointing out Jimmy Carter’s culpability in the mortgage mess. I’ve not seen anyone cogently defend any of your positions.
Yes, I’ve insulted you and you’ve earned each and every insult. I’ve responded to your insults in kind, because, well, I’m funnier than you are. I met you issue for issue - I’ve been right and you’ve been wrong and it’s never been the other way around. If you want to be an etiquette cop, get hired on at a day care where the kids don’t know any better than to fear an adult or at the very least, find someone who cares what you think of their manners, but, don’t hang around here insulting people then feign indignation when you get it put back in your face…..wait, Ann Coulter is right, that’s exactly how you liberals are hard wired - you’re completely unaware of your truculent, trifling and boorish behavior, although you are ultra sensitive to the behavior of others and you’re ALWAYS ready to assume the role of VICTIM. I know about a half dozen people like you. They get upset when they find out that people they hate are mad at them. You must be a blast at the company Christmas party - making everyone walk on eggshells and all.
Randy
You just did it again, twice, to me and zero.
Zero, you need an aluminum foil helmet. Ask for one on your next birthday.
celtworm….I re-read my posts. Everything is just hunky dory and factual, no problem. I wouldn’t consider asking you to back off your “pigheaded” and “juvenile” name calling - it helps me understand on what level you need to be spoken to.
Thanks about the attitude adjustment, but, I’m just fine. The next four years won’t be painful for me, they’ll be amusing and very entertaining - especially since the democrats will most certainly screw everything up worse and won’t be in a position to blame either republicans or conservatives. We’ll end up with higher taxes and more international interventionism, but, que sera sera.
By the way, Terry McAuliffe is filthy slime - that’s common knowledge.
