McDonnell reports raising $1.8 million

Republican gubernatorial candidate Bob McDonnell reported raising about $1.8 million in the latest fundraising period.

That is far less than his Democratic opponent, R. Creigh Deeds, raised. Deeds reported raising $3.4 million between May 28 and June 30.

But McDonnell, who did not have a nomination opponent, had far more money in the bank on June 30. McDonnell had almost $5 million in cash, while Deeds had $2.7 million. Deeds won a primary contest over two other Democrats on June 9.

McDonnell earlier reported receiving money from national Republican groups, but none in this period.
