Danville TEA Party group to burn Perriello, Pelosi in effigy
Members of the Danville TEA Party reportedly plan to burn Rep. Tom Perriello, D-5th and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in effigy Nov. 21.
Perriello last Saturday was one of four Virginia Democrats who voted in favor of the $1.2 trillion health-care overhaul. Two Virginia Democrats and all five Republicans voted against the bill.
The Star-Tribune, a newspaper in Pittsylvania County, reported on its Web site yesterday that the protesters plan to end their "fired up for freedom" rally in Blairs, Virginia by burning Perriello and Pelosi in effigy.
It quoted Nigel Coleman, chairman of the Danville TEA Party group, as saying: "At this point we feel we have no representation in Congress."
Democrats decried the report.
"These shocking and despicable acts are becoming all too common at extreme right-wing Republican rallies," said Rep. Chistopher Van Hollen, D-Maryland, head of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.
"While there should be a robust debate about reforming America's broken health-insurance system, violent expressions are beyond the boundaries of a respectful debate."
Perriello on Thursday night held a telephone town hall on health care that drew 8,000 participants, according to his staff.

As far as burning folks in effigy, GWB may well have been thus treated in America in the early goings of his administration, I just don’t remember seeing it. Now, in the “Holy Land” and other parts of the mideast it was standard operating procedure for a gathering or just your garden variety rock/shoe throwing.

1- We have been guaranteed free expression and freedom of speech, including burning symbols in effigy. Only repressive governments try to silence this type expression.
You may think that you do, but the people that your supporting don’t believe in that. While the current administration is going out of its way to create public forums for the tea partiers to turn into circuses maybe we should take some time to remember the recent past and put things into perspective. It wasn’t but just 1 to 8 years ago that Bush and co were orchestrating speeches and q&a sessions open only to card carrying republicans (actually checking your voter registration at the door), checking cars in the lot for “politically incorrect” statements and removing those people from the crowd and herding dissenting people off to free speech zones. It wasn’t but 20-30 years ago that the Reagan crowd was threatening a constitutional amendment to make the practice of flag burning illegal and subject to charges of treason. That’s the UGLY reality of the utter HYPOCRISY you tea drinkers live in.
2- The “Health Care overhaul” is not about democrats and socialists in governemtn being concerned that everyone have healthcare. It is about a socialist government (i.e., current regime in the white house) taking control one of the largest cash producing businesses in America and directing the flow of HUNDREDS of BILLIONS of dollars through their hands and controlling this issue and cash transfer with the emotional rope of the NEED for HEALTH INSURANCE. Is it any cooincidence that were are currently being “SCARED” by our government aobut the N1h1 / swine flu? At the same time congress tries to stuff reform legislation down our throats? FACT: The results of N1H1 has been no worse than the seasonal flu - and many fewer people are getting n1h1 shot than do the seasonal flu shot, so the results should be horrific. Is this another sham?

This is a time honored form of political protest. The left however is trying to equate it with their favorite protest which is looting and burning of the cities…
