White powder scare prompts partial evacuation of DMV central office in Richmond
The customer service area of the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicle's central office on West Broad Street was evacuated briefly this morning after a suspicious white powder spilled out of an envelope in the agency's basement mailroom.
The basement remained closed early this afternoon as members of the Richmond Fire Department's hazardous materials team retrieved the envelope and monitored air quality, said Richmond fire spokesman Lt. Shawn Jones.
Authorities were alerted about 11:30 a.m. after a mailroom employee was exposed to the white powder after opening an envelope. About 12 employees in that section were evacuated, Jones said.
The affected employee was evaluated by emergency medical personnel but exhibited no signs of ill health, Jones said.

I am amazed that this episode made the news as we have had other white powder scares. This is the only way that we know what happens here at work.
This is Richmond. Of course there’s going to be white powder.

I bet this was the fastest any of those employees have ever moved.
LOL!
If this substance came through the mail, Post Inspectors will be there as well.
Baking soda or talcum powder comes to mind.
Probably someone with a grudge against DMV for whatever reason, not realizing that they might wind up in the slammer.
I bet this was the fastest any of those employees have ever moved.
