AROUND THE STATE

Fredericksburg Daniel Paul Watkins, student-body president at Abilene Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas, has been impeached. The Students' Association Congress voted 25-5-2 this week to impeach the 20-year-old Fredericksburg resident, saying he had not fulfilled the 20 hours of required work per week as an executive officer, was frequently late to meetings and talked to a professor disrespectfully. Watkins said he "made a pretty compelling case" that he should remain in office, rebutting claims, and then was asked to leave the meeting, at which point the vote was taken.

Hampton A model used in tests at the NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton will be a key part of an exhibit at the National Air and Space Museum in Washington. The blended wing body model will be featured in the museum's "How Things Fly" gallery. The model was designed to research futuristic aircraft designs and was used in wind tunnel flight tests at NASA Langley.

Virginia Beach The city has gone to court to condemn portions of the Cape Henry beaches for a sand-replenishment project. In documents filed in Virginia Beach Circuit Court against six condominium associations and land owners, the city contends the public has a right to use the beach for recreation. The city also wants access to the land for beach nourishment projects. The defendants have argued that their deeds show that the beach belongs to them.

Manassas A Prince William County judge has found a Woodbridge man incompetent to stand trial in the death of an Alexandria woman who was abducted from Springfield Mall. Keith Baskerville, 19, faces abduction, murder and carjacking charges in the death of Barbara Bosworth, 60. Police say Baskerville and another man, 19-year-old Lutchman Chandler, abducted Bosworth from the mall in September. The men crashed her car as they fled, killing Bosworth. Chandler later died from his injuries. Baskerville is scheduled to return to court March 27 to review his competency.
