Goochland Goochland High School will present the musical "Wizard of Oz" at 7 p.m. today and 3 p.m. tomorrow at the school, 3250-A River Road West in Goochland County. Admission is $7.
Dinwiddie The Dinwiddie County Board of Supervisors will hold a special workshop meeting on Tuesday at the Dinwiddie County High School auditorium, 11501 Boisseau Road. . A closed session will begin at 6 p.m. and a public hearing on the proposed budget for fiscal 2009-2010 will begin at 7.
Chesterfield The Chesterfield County Budget and Audit Committee will meet Monday at 12:30 p.m. in Room 505 of the Lane B. Ramsey Administration Building, 9901 Lori Road.
Hopewell The Hopewell library, 209 E. Cawson St., is celebrating Children's Book Week; local soldiers, fire officials and the mayor of Hopewell will be at a story time celebration of Dr. Seuss and other children's authors on Monday at 6:30 p.m.
Richmond Two concerts on the World War I Memorial Carillon bells will be held this month. The first, by carillonneur Ryan Hebert, will celebrate Mother's Day at 3 p.m. tomorrow. Light refreshments will be served. The second, by carillonneur Larry Robinson, will mark Memorial Day at 4 p.m. May 25. The event will feature patriotic selections, guest speakers, vocal selections and a salute by the Memorial Rifles. The building will be open for viewing both days.
Richmond Jungheinrich Lift Truck Corp. has donated an electric pallet truck to the Susan G. Komen "Race for the Cure" organization. The truck, painted pink, is to be used to help unload and transport equipment at the 12th annual Richmond Race for the Cure downtown today.
Henrico Henrico County Public Schools held a cornerstone ceremony yesterday to celebrate the beginning of construction of a middle school at 600 Concourse Blvd. in western Henrico. Holman Middle School is set to open in 2010.
Petersburg The Petersburg Public Library is offering a computer class on how to make a resume. The free class will be Monday from 2 to 4 p.m., and another session from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Central Library, 137 S. Sycamore St. To register, call (804) 733-2387.

COLLINSVILLE A Denver-based company that handles customer-service calls for telecommunications clients plans to hire 75 people at its Henry County operation. StarTek said Thursday that client growth prompted its decision to increase the work force of 700 at its Collinsville office by July 1. The site operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
TAZEWELL A Richlands man has been sentenced to more than 44 years in prison on charges in an attack on a police officer and a rescue worker. Tazewell County Commonwealth's Attorney Dennis Lee said 38-year-old Sidney Allen Smith was sentenced Thursday on charges of attempted capital murder and assault and battery. Lee said when police responded to a Richlands apartment complex in August 2006, Smith tried to stab town Officer Gary Childress in the neck with a hunting knife. Circuit Court Judge Teresa Chafin suspended 25 years and six months of the 70-year term she gave Smith.
Roanoke Four Roanoke Valley men have been indicted on federal charges of plotting to kidnap the wives of wealthy men and hold them for ransom. U.S. Attorney Julia Dudley said the four were indicted Thursday by a grand jury on charges of kidnapping conspiracy and attempted kidnapping. The maximum penalty is life in prison.They were identified as 19-year-old Joshua Kasongo, 19-year-old Mohammed Hussein Guhad, 19-year-old Luke Musa Elbino and 18-year-old Anthony Eugene Muse.
