Goochland Methane emissions at the landfill beneath Hidden Rock Park are under control, according to the latest monitoring report dated April 8 from the state Department of Environmental Quality. A new remediation system was installed this year to bring the landfill into compliance with state standards.
Henrico Henrico County resident Ellis Baggs finished in the top 15 during the 2009 Monopoly U.S. National Championship completed yesterday in Washington. Baggs, an environmental lawyer at Hunton & Williams, finished 14th out of 28 competitors. Baggs won his opening round match Tuesday night but lost both rounds he played yesterday. He lost to eventual national champion Richard Marinaccio of Buffalo, N.Y. Marinaccio collected $20,580 and advances to the World Championship tournament in Las Vegas in October.
Chesterfield Virginia Commonwealth University School of Pharmacy faculty and students will educate secondthrough seventh-graders about exercise, nutrition, smoking, substance abuse and how the heart and lungs work at a Community Health Fair tomorrow from 6 to 9 p.m. at Manchester Middle School, 7401 Hull Street Road. While children participate in the free, interactive health classes, adults can get diabetes, hypertension and body mass index screenings. Fredericksburg City Manager Phillip Rodenberg plans to resign after the disclosure of his personal relationship with a city employee. The City Council voted early yesterday to accept Rodenberg's resignation. Last week, city officials disclosed a personal relationship between the 48-year-old Rodenberg, who is separated from his wife, and city Economic Development Manager Kim Schill.
Lexington Washington and Lee University has a missing library book back on its shelves -- nearly 145 years after it was stolen by a soldier during the Civil War. The 1842 book, part of W.F.P. Napier's four-volume "History of the War in the Peninsula and in the South of France from the Year 1807 to the Year 1814," was returned recently by a friend of one of the soldier's descendants.
