Henrico A Mega Millions lottery ticket sold in Henrico County and worth $250,000 expires today. The Virginia Lottery says the ticket, for the drawing March 27 was sold at a 7-Eleven outlet at 2413 Staples Mill Road. The ticket matched the first five numbers and missed only the Mega Ball number to win Mega Millions' second prize of $250,000. The winning numbers for that drawing were 24-37-44-50-56, and the Mega Ball number was 35. The holder of the ticket can contact the Virginia Lottery by 5 p.m. at (804) 692-7000. If the winnings are not claimed, they will go to the Virginia Literary Fund, which is used for educational purposes such as school construction, renovation and teacher retirement funding.
Richmond A man was assaulted and robbed yesterday morning while running near the northwestern edge of Richmond's Fan District. Richmond police Capt. Scott Booth said the man was taken to Bon Secours St. Mary's Hospital to be treated for injuries that were not life-threatening after the 1:15 a.m. assault. The man told police he was running in an alley south of the 2600 block of West Broad Street when he was confronted by three males. Two threw him to the ground, and one struck him with an unknown object, possibly a baseball bat, Booth said.
Prince George On Tuesday the Prince George County Regional Heritage Center will host the annual meeting of the Prince George County Historical Society. "Battlefields Tell the Story" will be presented by Bob Kirby, superintendent of the Petersburg National Battlefield. The program will begin at 7 p.m. on the second floor of the Center. There will be an opportunity for questions, and refreshments will follow the program. The Center is located in the 1883 Courthouse at 6406 Courthouse Road, Prince George. Chesterfield A bicycle ride called the Ter-Food-Din, because it goes from Chester to Chesdin to benefit food banks and emergency needs, will be sponsored by the Chesterfield-Colonial Heights Alliance for Social Ministry on Saturday during ChesterFest. The routes will start at Chester Baptist Church. The full Ter-Food-Din starts at 7:30 a.m. and goes 40 miles, while the half starts at 8 a.m. and goes 20 miles. The family ride starts at 9 a.m. and goes 5 miles. All cyclists receive a ticket for lunch at ChesterFest. Registration is $40 for adults, $15 for children. Caroline The Mid-Atlantic Rally of the Rover Owners Association of Virginia will be held Oct. 1-4 at Airy Hill Farm, a 700-acre property in DeJarnette in Caroline County. The four-day rally will feature off-road events, music, food, guided Land Rover rides for new drivers, parts for sale and children's games. Norfolk Old Dominion University wants to open a precinct and staff it with university police and Norfolk city officers in an attempt to curb campus-area crime. Robert Fenning, vice president for administration and finance, told the Norfolk City Council on Monday that the university would like to renovate the former Old Dominion Inn and use it as a shared base of operations for ODU and city officers. ODU has included $6 million in its proposed capital-improvement budget to help pay for it. City leaders say they need more information, including the project's total cost, before they would endorse it.
