Richmond police are investigating the shooting of a store owner and a suspect during an attempted robbery Saturday at a store that was the scene of another shooting just last month.

Police were summoned at 1:05 p.m. to the Golden Food Market at 2701 Jefferson Davis Highway in South Richmond.

The owner had been shot, and a customer inside the store shot the would-be robber, police said. Although other customers were inside the market, none was injured.

The store owner's injuries were described as not life-threatening. The gunman's injuries, however, were said to be life-threatening.

On June 12, another man was shot six times during a robbery at Golden Food.

Three days earlier, a co-owner of the Come and Go Food Market, which is three blocks north of Golden Food on Jeff Davis, was shot and killed in a robbery.

When the criminals learn we are armed, perhaps they will decide honest work is a better way to make a buck. Here’s hoping the store owner recovers quickly.

I just hope the customer said only one thing to the police.

“I was in fear for my life”
