The economic turmoil of recent months has transformed the country in many ways. How did we get here? Where is the economy going? What is the long-term impact?

Those and other questions will addressed Nov. 18 at the Richmond Times-Dispatch's 21st Public Square.

A panel of experts will discuss the state of the economy, the effect on the region and where we might find ourselves in the next few months. The panel includes:

  • J. Alfred Broaddus Jr., past president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond;
  • Laura Lafayette, senior vice president of the Richmond Association of Realtors;
  • T. Gaylon Layfield III, president and CEO of Xenith Bank (in organization);
  • Rudolph C. McCollum Jr., a former Richmond mayor who is an attorney with an expertise in bankruptcy; and
  • Keith L. Muth, managing partner of Virginia Asset Management.

    The panel discussion will be followed by audience questions, challenges and concerns.

    The Public Square starts at 7 p.m. at The Times-Dispatch's downtown offices, 300 E. Franklin St. Parking is available.
