The Chesterfield Health District hopes to make it easier for people to get H1N1 vaccinations by offering clinics at satellite storefront locations starting this week.
The walk-in clinics will operate 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. tomorrow and Thursday at 10185 Hull Street Road in the Rockwood Square Shopping Center in Chesterfield County and in Dunlop Village Circle in Colonial Heights. Call 768-7499 for details.
Statewide, flulike illness visits to emergency rooms and urgent-care centers are down, but "we're not done with this yet," said Dr. William Nelson in a briefing with reporters yesterday.
"We've just gone through the first wave, said Nelson, noting that influenza usually peaks in January-March period. "It's highly likely the 2009 H1N1 will come back as part of that picture."
He said health officials would still like people in priority groups to get vaccinated first. The clinics are open to everyone.
A Bon Secours interactive town hall on H1N1 originally scheduled for tonight has been canceled. The panel, which would have allowed people to send questions to medical experts via Facebook and at an in-person meeting, was canceled because of low registration.

and witchdoctor, why wold you assume people at the health department would be any more likely to be sick than those at your physician or pharmacy? They are there for the exact same reason folks are at the Health Department.
I just got mine today. It took all of twenty minutes.
I don’t know about other services, but if you get your H1N1 shot at a health department clinic, then it is free—for everyone. It doesn’t matter how much money you have in your bank account. Also, the huge crowds that were at H1N1 clinics a few weeks ago have mostly changed to a steady trickle. Hope that’s helpful.
witchdoctor,
If you lived in Great Britain, your doctor would have already called you with a time and date for your flu shot. No lines, no hassle. Here, in the land of the sharp elbows, you have to compete with those who are healthier than you. Sorry.
As a member of a priority group it amazes me that I can’t go to my doctor or my pharmacy to get vaccinated. If I were eligible for a free shot I could go stand among a whole crowd of people who might have the disease at some of these clinics, but since I, unfortunately, am not poor I can’t get one at all by paying for it. Now is it any wonder that people want to change the medical insurance system? If the County Government would stop hijacking the shipments and let Doctors and Pharmacies have some.
