World Affairs Council sets seminar series

The World Affairs Council of Greater Richmond has announced a series of seminars focused on important world issues. They begin next month.

The series, co-sponsored by the Virginia Historical Society, is also planned in conjunction with the League of Women Voters.

The events are Thursdays at 7 p.m. from Feb. 5 through March 26. Topics are:

  • Feb. 5: Afghanistan -- The Pursuit of Stability
  • Feb. 12: The Evolution of Human Rights Doctrines in International Affairs
  • Feb. 19: The U.S. and Egypt -- Perspectives on a Flawed Partnership
  • Feb. 26: The Global Food Supply -- Development of a Crisis
  • March 5: Cuba after Castro -- The Past as Prologue
  • March 12: The U.S. and Rising Powers -- Outgrowing History
  • March 19: Energy and the Global Economy -- The End of History?
  • March 26: The Arctic Environment -- The End of a Geological Era?
  • A full-series subscription for members of the World Affairs Council, the Virginia Historical Society or the League of Women Voters is $45. It is $64 for nonmembers. A ticket for a single session is $10 for members, $15 for nonmembers.

    Free parking is available behind the Virginia Historical Society, 428 N. Boulevard, with an entrance on Kensington Avenue.
