Protesting against President Barack Obama’s health-care and cap-and-trade proposals, several hundred Virginians gathered today outside the Richmond area offices of Sens. Jim Webb, D-Virginia, and Mark R. Warner, D-Virginia.

Pickets organized by the Richmond Tea Party and Americans for Prosperity chanted slogans and waved signs to urge the two senators to vote against the proposals.

Neither senator was present.

“Webb vote no, or you will go!“ the crowd outside Webb’s downtown Richmond office chanted.

Sorry, greta, I simply don’t believe a word you say.  You had 2 or 3 babies WITHOUT insurance?  So are you in enormous debt from that, or were you treated as an emergency patient and you paid nothing?  If so, isn’t that what you were complaining about earlier?  Further, raising children with no insurance for yourself or them is just plain stupid.  Who in their right mind would put themselves and their babies at such a risk and then suddenly get insurance for themselves after their children were grown?

Now, let’s face facts; if your comment was made in the attempt for me to feel bad about what I said to you, it did the exact opposite.  Now, I not only think you are greedy, I also think you are a liar at best, or a complete moron who didn’t care about her childrens’ well being while they were growing up without insurance.

Care to go another round?

“And by the way Canada can sell the medications cheaper because they do not pay for the astronomical R&D that puts them on the market.“

The US Taxpayer does that…. the drug companies spend their money on advertisements on TV.

In fact, they spend more on the ads than they do on the R&D!

So spare me the drug-lobbyist scare tactics—please.

Waiting—big deal. I’m fully insured and recently had to go five months before a procedure at MCV. Like a hip replacement, it wasn’t life threatening. If the Swedish PM was in a big rush he could have come to America and paid a hundred grand.

One only has to read the vitriolic, hate-filled comments related to a variety of stories published on this web site to understand why we are in the dire circumstances we are in. Few demonstrate any open-mindedness, objectivity, or thoughtful consideration of issues - far more - of every party - resort to name-calling, unfounded accusations, innuendo, hate-mongering, and outright misrepresentation of the facts.

Whitley is a stenographer, not a journalist. If the RTD goes under, he’ll never work for another publication. Ok, maybe the Country Club of Virginia Newsletter.

“w0w123—Greta and her family has paid into the medicare system. This was not given to her”

designer, we’ve all paid into that system, but you must be delusional or really poor in math skills if you think anyone has paid in anything near what the received benefits cost. If the only return was what you’d paid in, it wouldn’t cover even a single major hospital stay. Think before you attack what other people think!

Such angry people. I did not ask for nor do I want anybody’s sympathy.
I did not ask for it when my husband and I lived for years on minimum wage because he was an environamentalist in a start up company and cared to put our money where our mouths were in order to keep the planet clean.
I had two babies and raised three girls with NO insurance.
We did not have insurance until we were well into middle age.
We took care of our own and paid into the system just like everyone else.
You are not paying for my health care. I am.

Medicare is a single payer flawed system. That was my point. Sorry you were too busy adding up greviances to get it.

Tyler Whitley has hated Jim Webb from the day he announced, and his reporting on him has ALWAYS been negative.  The RTD should fire him; he’s as much a journalist as Glenn Beck is a journalist.

designer, I hate to do this but I have to point out you as the one making idiotic statements, just like so many other self-proclaimed lovers of America did in the late 1920’s. Cut government spending was the common wisdom of those in charge; the infamous invisible hand of the market will make it all new and shiny for everyone! You do realize that drove this nation’s major recession into a world-wide recession which is now referred to as the Great Depression, emphasis on “great”. FDR’s New Deal helped alleviate some of the problem by providing many employmant rebuilding crumbling infrastructure, by guess what, increasing government spending beyond what was in the bank, so to speak. Admittedly, that wasn’t enough to wipe out the accumulated effects of the previous decade’s wild ride on unregulated markets; it took a war to do that. And guess who paid for the huge increase in demand for jeeps, tanks and airplanes? Money borrowed by the government, and lo and behold, the recession quickly became a thing of the past, leaving a growing middle-class, and promises people made to never let that happen again through unregulated markets. We went off the gold standard then because there wasn’t enough gold to match the printed $$$ needed. The country was, in effect, bankrupt! Get it?
Did you actually listen to Biden, because he said nothing about being able to spend our way out of bankruptcy, but his mistake was to say everyone guessed wrong. The Administration made that assertion because it was the considered opinion of major economic forecasting firms; obviously they guessed wrong too. Look it up if you doubt that. Why does it bother you if “libs” as you label some people, guessed wrong? G.W. Bush said the Iraq war would be a cakewalk, costing no more than 1 or 2 billion which would quickly be paid back through oil revenues. Do you realize the approximately 800 billion for the war never even went on the budget but was done through special appropriations? So, he was a “lib”? You want certainty in forecasting the future of anything, then go ask God; none of us KNOW the future, and those who claim to are no more than charlatans and snake oil salesamen. I agree that the fixes needed are being rushed through without enough study and thought of negative consequences, but that doesn’t justify attack. It requires thoughtful input from all who consider themselves responsible citizens. Have you managed to actually think of anything to correct the problems you claim to see in the healthcare proposals? If so, then show yourself to be a proud American and communicate your ideas to your elected representative. If not, then go ahead and spend your time trashing others and labeling them since that’s what it takes for you to stop seeing others as actually being people just like yourself (that’s a favorite method of authoritarian governments, by the way). But remember, continuing the route you’re on you’re not only hurting yourself but also the nation you so claim to love. Yes, let’s all protect America from drastic change! Those idiotic early colonial settlers chose drastic change and we see how badly that turned out!
Jason Goldsmith posted a well thought-out comment shortly after you; now he’s one who can honestly call himself a Proud American!

Jason, Check the pics from the tea baggers. Look at them closely and watch the you tube movies as well. As I said there are about 40 people. Lots of Limpbaugh pot belly dittoheads, a few kids sprinkled in, but heavily white middle aged and angry.  20 million of them listen to the Vicodin Addict and make him a very rich man, but 20 million will not elect a president, and 40 or 50 in Richmond is a pretty poor turnout.

designer, she is still clearly a very selfish, somewhat hateful, ME ME ME type of person.  SHE gets the health care, WE don’t.

You know, a few weeks ago, Chris Matthews said it best: “Oh, you people that call yourselves libertarians and conservatives; you’re all about small government until you get old and sick.“

Same old, same old with these people.  It’s all about them.

Congrats to Greta, she made me feel better about who I am as a TRUE American today.
