W&M approves $300 tuition increase for spring
The College of William and Mary's board of visitors today approved a $300 tuition increase for the spring semester to help offset the loss of $6.2 million in state funds for the current fiscal year.
The tuition increase, to be added to spring bills for undergraduate, business and law students, was necessary to rebalance the budget after a 15 percent reduction ordered in September because of the state's revenue shortfall, W&M President Taylor Reveley said in an e-mail to students.
Also today, the University of Mary Washington board decided to charge students an extra $100 next semester to raise an estimated $435,000 to cover its budget shortfall.
Last week, the State Board for Community Colleges approved an increase that will add about $22 to the cost of a typical class next semester.
