Special prosecutor: Investigation of Woody nearly complete

The special prosecutor investigating an allegation made against Richmond's sheriff plans to complete the inquiry by early next week.

Prince William County Commonwealth's Attorney Paul B. Ebert also said today that no charges have been placed in connection with the allegation against Sheriff C.T. Woody Jr.

Ebert declined to further discuss the case.

The investigation began after a woman who works for Woody came forward last month and alleged that the sheriff had forcibly kissed her and touched her inappropriately, according to a source familiar with the investigation.

The woman, who works at one of the city courthouses, alleges that the incident happened about a year ago in Richmond, the source said.

Richmond Commonwealth's Attorney Michael N. Herring requested that a special prosecutor be assigned to the case, and a judge named Ebert to fill that role.

Woody denied any wrongdoing again today. He issued the following written statement: "The fabricated allegation of sexual battery is totally baseless and without merit. I have faith in the Criminal Justice System. Until the investigation is concluded no additional comments will be made."
