An injured great-horned owl was found — in all places — in front of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service office in eastern Henrico County.

George and Sally Davis of Tri-City Florist, next door to the wildlife office in the 5700 block of South Laburnum Avenue, found the bird Sunday about 10:30 a.m. It appeared stunned and was barely moving.

The bird, which appeared to have an injured wing, was being cared for today at Hanover Green Veterinary Clinic. It may be taken eventually to a licensed wildlife rehabilitator.

The plan is to return the bird to the wild after it heals, said Dan Rolince, resident agent in charge of the Fish and Wildlife Service law-enforcement office on Laburnum, where the bird was found.

While it’s possible someone left the injured owl there, Rolince said it’s also possible the bird got injured in traffic or flew into a window or other object.
