Richmond Fair cancels plans for July event at RIR

A Tennessee-based fair operator that planned a 10-day event at the Richmond Raceway Complex next month has canceled its plans.

The company couldn’t agree with Henrico County on security arrangements for the event, Richmond Fair manager Philip Downing said.

He said he didn’t want to discuss details.

Randall R. Silber,  deputy county manager, said the issue was the cost the county proposed to charge the fair for police, fire, EMS and other security-related matters. He also declined to discuss the cost or specifics of the proposed arrangements.

I thought the whole idea of having another Fair at RIR was too much.  I could see having more races at RIR like returning the NASCAR Trucks, Sprint cars, Modifieds, Late Models and perhaps a motorcylce race on a July weekend.  Combine that with a midway of rides and games over a 3 day weekend would be a good break in the Summer.
