To “dee65”. I agree. But I don’t see the connection with the comments on taxes. They was refering to individuals that would need government support because their wage earning loved one was a vegetable on a ventilator. Talk to a ER tech if you doubt that. The “click it or ticket” arguement is based on the allocation of resources. I don’t know enough to say how I feel about that. Many people feel the same police could be better used looking for bad guys. I suspect that a “click it or ticket” stop would be terminated immediately if a murderer, bank robber, or drunk where in the vicinity. And you are right, no one would voluntarily pay thir insurance company more for a no helmet or seat belt rider but they might think twice when told they are not covered if not wearing a seat belt and they didn’t pay the extra premium. Same goes for cell phones. I am opposed to the government saying I can’t talk on mine but I know my attention is not what it should be if on a cell (or doing makeup). But if I am in an accident and phone records indicate I was on a cell at the time and I am automatically considered at least partially to blame then, again, I might think again about talking and driving. My insurance rates would also automatically increase if this should happen. Just as it would with a drunk driving ticket/accident.
Comincents, I am not wealthy and I work and pay taxes everyday also. But my point is, that if LIFE! Citizens pay taxes and yea I might b**** and moan about what’s coming out of my check, but its nothing I can do about that really. But for you and others to always justify why something shouldn’t be done because of “your” tax money, GET OVER IT! Its not “your” money alone taking care of all that needs to be taken care of….
qhgirl, I understand your example and get your point, but again, I am tired of everyone talkin about “obama eating burgers w/my tax money, people being reckless and spending your tax money”. Geez, so what. That’s life like I said before. Stop working and sit at home and spend someone else’s tax money if its that serious to you….
You know from reading these posts no one seems to understand that Law enforcement has different areas of their job just like any other job. By doing the “click it or ticket it” campaign look at all the other violations they were also able to get. Drivers put their lives on line everytime they get in a vehicle. Should we also have insurance riders for those who choose to be on their cell phones, apply make-up, read , eat and everything else people do while they’re driving? I’m on the road with completely clueless drivers everyday and unfortunately there are no laws for dumb driving!! I have been driving for 28 yrs. and have never had a ticket but I have been in one accident because a driver on a cell phone hit me from behind at a red light and then had the nerve to get mad because I didn’t get ticketed. So according to those advocating insurance riders let these drivers pay more but who will admit to not wearing seatbelts, talking on cell phones, eating, drinking, reading, etc to pay more insurance? The purpose of LAWS is for safety but NO ONE follows all driving laws. Most will follow certain laws but a large majority ignore them because they think they can and unfortunately all the other drivers pay for it and not all the time its with their tax money, its with their LIVES.
lovin..
Changing your W-4 does not change what you owe/pay in taxes. It only affects the amount of taxes your employer takes out of your check.
We can change the amount of with-holding by fiddling around with our W-4. The amount of tax-liability..or what we owe is dependant on our income, filing status, exemptions, deductions..etc. The IRS frowns on not paying as you go. If you are going to owe more than is being withheld, you are supposed to make installment payments throughout the year.
As the other poster said.. We are concerned about how the taxpayer money is spent because if it is spent prudently.. we won’t have to suffer a higher tax rate to get the same level of service from our government.
Let’s put it this way.. you pay $10.00 for dinner (everybody has to pay for dinner).. The restaurant can be really sloppy.. waste a lot of food and you may end up with day old meatloaf. If the restaurant is frugal.. checks for the best deals from suppliers and minimizes waste.. you get a pork chop meal with potatoes and a vegetable plus a cookie.
I am sorry “lovin” but you are either independently wealthy or an idiot. The taxes I pay are my money. No different than what I spend at the grocery store or for a car. I do care about where my money goes and if you don’t then that is your mistake. Every taxpayer/voter has an obligation in a democracy to give a hoot. Or you are a brainless zombie and believe the government has both the right and the wisdom to know what to do with your money better than you do. Go big government. Why work at all. Just give them everything, ask no questions, life is good and Uncle Sam will take care of everything. Duh.
Oh god, why is everyone always talkin about their taxpayer money going to this and that. So what! Everybody that has a job pays taxes and you can’t be so concerned with what it is going to once its gone. Just be happy about income tax time or work your w-4 forms so that you get most your money back during the year and it won’t be such a big deal that things are being paid for w/taxpayer money. And its not going to change, we will always have taxes so GET OVER IT!
Yeah, let the gangs beat-up the helpless, murder, rape, deal in drugs, and even burn children’s playgrounds in Richmond. But, by God, they’re going to wear their seatbelts during their travels to and from their crimes. How cowardly of the Richmond area police to ignore the crimes they should be solving while relentlessly pursuing this meter-maid level of work.
I couldn’t agree with qhgirl more. I would add that an individual who elects to go without a seat belt obtain insurance to provide for any dependents the state would end up covering. An unbelted or unhelmeted driver/rider would also have automatically waived any injury claim against another driver. It is unfair for me as a tax payer or insured to pay for an individuals reckless but free choice.
I am sure lapsed tags, improper or expired registrations, inspection stickers etc.. accounted for a lot of those violations.
The whole seatbelt law irks me just a little. I always wear mine because I think it is the smart thing to do..but it sort of reminds me of the helmet laws. I understand that both save lives. I also 100% agree that minors should be required to be belted/helmeted up. But.. if an adult is willing to take personal responsibility for not taking those safety precautions.. then they shouldn’t have to. I would caveat that by saying they would have to have a rider on their health/automobile insurance policies that covers them for the higher risk to themselves they are taking by not buckling or helmeting up. That way, if they want to ride w/out a helmet.. fine, but my insurance rates won’t be impacted. I guess I am more in favor of personal responsibility as opposed to babying us all the time.
