Richmond seat-belt campaign leads to 1,900 summonses
Richmond police issued more than 1,900 summonses during their two-week "Click It or Ticket" seat-belt campaign that ended Sunday.
They issued 150 summonses for seat-belt violations; 43 for children improperly secured; 429 for speeding; 144 for reckless driving; and 185 for driving with a suspended or revoked driver's license.
There were 37 arrests for DUI.
Other violations included underage drinking, stealing cars and having no insurance.

Well that accounts for 988 citations. The other 912 were really for underage drinking, stealing cars and driving without insurance?
Not to embarass anyone but my math says 150 of 1900 is not 1%. More like 10%, especially if you count the 43 improperly secured children.

And, of course, by taking part in the “Click It or Ticket” campaign and running the ads on TV, they’re still trying to perpetuate the myth that you can be pulled over for not having your seatbelt on in Virginia. The fact is that you have to be stopped and cited for another traffic violation before you can also be ticketed for not having a seatbelt on. Repeated attempts in the legislature have failed to get this changed.
1900 tickets. About 1% for seat belt violations. Serious revenue enchanement program.
