William and Virginia Bucher escape after the Briley gang leaves them to burn alive in their home. Henrico County.
March 21, 1979
Linwood and Anthony Briley abduct and rob Michael W. McDuffie, 20, a food-vending serviceman. Linwood fatally shoots him and they leave his body in his car. Henrico County.
March 31, 1979
Linwood Briley fatally shoots Edric Alvin Clark, 28, at his home in a drug dispute that also involves Duncan Meekins. East End.
April 9, 1979
Linwood Briley and Meekins rob Mary W. Gowen, 76, in front of her apartment. Linwood rapes her and fatally shoots her. Anthony Briley is present. West End.
July 3, 1979
Linwood and Anthony Briley and Meekins beat Christopher M. Phillips, 17, after they see the youth tampering with Linwood's car. Linwood hits him in the head with a piece of concrete and kills him. North Side.
Sept. 14, 1979
Briley gang mugs disc jockey "Johnny G" Gallaher, and Linwood fatally shoots him in the back. Mayo Island.
Sept. 30, 1979
Linwood Briley uses a baseball bat to fatally break the skull of nurse Mary S. Wilfong, 62, whom he robbed. Meekins and James and Anthony Briley accompany him. Henrico County.
Oct. 6, 1979
Linwood uses a pipe to beat to death nearly blind Blanche I. Page, 75, and her boarder, Charles W. Garner, 59. North Side.
Oct. 14, 1979
Meekins fatally shoots Thomas Saunders, 32. Linwood and James Briley are also involved in the scuffle. East End.
Oct. 19, 1979
Linwood, James and Anthony Briley and Meekins pillage home of Harvey Wilkerson, 26. Several rape Wilkerson's common-law wife, Judy Barton. James fatally shoots her and the couple's son, Harvey, 5; Meekins fatally shoots Wilkerson. North Side.
Oct. 22, 1979
Police arrest the Brileys and Meekins.
