Louisa man guilty in methamphetamine, cocaine case

A Louisa County man pleaded guilty yesterday to distributing methamphetamine and cocaine after police found more than 82 grams of both drugs in his car last summer.

Charles Langton, 42, was convicted of felony distribution of cocaine and methamphetamine in Louisa Circuit Court. A judge set sentencing for Nov. 16.

In a summary of evidence, Deputy Commonwealth's Attorney Rusty McGuire said officers responded to Langton's home July 20, 2008, after authorities received a 911 call about a possible suicide attempt. When the officers arrived, Langton told them that he was high on two grams of "ice" -- a street name for methamphetamine -- and needed help.

He then instructed the officers to take the drugs in his car, where police found more than 82 grams of cocaine and methamphetamine. The majority of the drugs were determined to be cocaine, but the methamphetamine found was the largest amount of that drug to be confiscated by Louisa authorities, McGuire said in a news release.

After the conviction, Commonwealth's Attorney Tom Garrett encouraged residents to witness the destructive power of methamphetamine by visiting a Web site hosted by the Multnomah County (Oregon) Sheriff's Office. The Web site at http://www.facesofmeth.us carries the photos of people who have abused the drug.

"Once viewing these pictures, most will think twice before messing with this drug," Garrett said.
