Four Caroline County sheriff's deputies were assaulted in a courtroom yesterday about 12:50 p.m., authorities said.

Stacy J. St. Julian, 39, of Woodford was being tried on a domestic-assault charge in Caroline Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court. After he was convicted and sentenced, St. Julian became violent when being led from the courtroom, according to a news release from Caroline Sheriff A.A. "Tony" Lippa Jr. When deputies attempted to place him into custody, he struck several of them, authorities said.

Court deputies R.L. Cleveland and J.M. Hughes and field deputies C.M. Polliard and C.S. Wooldridge received minor injuries, but none required medical attention, authorities said.

As a result, St. Julian has been charged with one misdemeanor count of obstruction of justice and four felony counts of assaulting a law-enforcement officer. He was ordered held without bond and will appear today in Caroline General District Court.
