Chesterfield man died from sharp-force injury
A man found slain Sunday inside his Chesterfield County home died from a sharp-force injury to his neck, the state medical examiner's office said yesterday.
Wayne Sidney "Red" Davis, 53, was found dead at 10:56 a.m. by a neighbor in his one-story home in the 7000 block of Old Plantation Road, county police said.
His occasional girlfriend, Tina Lynn Campbell, 33, was charged later Sunday with first-degree murder. Campbell and her three children had moved in with Davis on Saturday, according to Patricia Pulliam, Campbell's mother.
In an interview Sunday, Pulliam said she had told her daughter, who has a history of serious mental problems, that she was going to evict her from Pulliam's home, about a block from Davis' house. Pulliam said Campbell, needing a new place to stay, went to Davis' home with her children.
Authorities say Davis was fatally stabbed during a domestic dispute early Sunday, sometime after midnight. A knife was recovered at the scene.
Davis' family members, many of whom live on the same street, said they had warned Campbell not to come back to Davis' home because of a history of fights and other issues. They said Davis received a head wound from Campbell during an incident in April.
Pulliam said her daughter was diagnosed during her teenage years with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, conditions that resulted in mood swings and breaks with reality.
Campbell made a brief video appearance yesterday in Chesterfield Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court, where a judge ordered her held without bond pending a preliminary hearing Aug. 26. Defense attorney Phillip A. Roberts Jr. was appointed to represent her, said Deputy Commonwealth's Attorney David Rigler.
