Death of man found on Lombardy Street investigated as homicide

Richmond police are investigating the death of a homeless man found in the 1000 block of Lombardy Street yesterday morning as a homicide.

Joseph C. McCray, 54, died from blunt-force trauma. The motive for the crime is unknown.

His body was found in a ravine shortly before 9 a.m. under an elevated section of the interstate just off Lombardy Street, between Virginia Union University and Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School. Anyone with any information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (804) 780-1000.
