Underage parties lead to 23 arrests

The Hanover County Sheriff's Office said a pair of underage parties last weekend resulted in the arrests of 23 people on alcohol charges.

The first incident occurred Sunday at about 1:30 a.m. in the 17300 block of Tyler Station Road in the Beaverdam area. Six juveniles and seven adults were arrested.

Also Sunday, at about 4 a.m., officers responded to the 6300 block of Midnight Drive in the Mechanicsville area. Six juveniles and four adults were arrested.

"While this remains an issue that we continue to focus upon, these incidents highlight the importance of parents being actively engaged in the lives of their children and reinforcing the dangers associated with illegally consuming alcohol," Sheriff V. Stuart Cook said in a statement yesterday.
