1 arrested, 2 sought in Henrico teen’s videotaped beating
Henrico County police have arrested a 15-year-old girl and are seeking two other people in the beating of a 14-year-old girl near Wilder Middle School that was taped and shown on the Internet.
Lt. Doug Perry said the 15-year-old, whose identity was not released because of her age, was charged with assault and battery.
Police are seeking two other people, believed to be adults, who were not seen on the videotape but were heard coaxing the 15-year-old.
"If they're adults, we may charge them with contributing to the delinquency of a minor," Perry said.

Perry said the beating occurred June 12 at about 2:45 p.m., shortly after classes ended for the academic year at Wilder Middle. A group of several dozen people went across the street from the school into Three Lakes Park, where the assault occurred, Perry said.
The video, which was posted briefly on YouTube, was about 16 seconds long, "but we know the fight went on for quite a while," Perry said.
The 14-year-old had various bruises and abrasions.

At least they were using their fist and now a weapon, True should have been one on one, but part of being a kid is being able to get away with a little healthy fighting,
richmond4real, people fought for those reasons back then also, granted, they have become more violent, but I still don’t believe this was one of them. They fought and it ended. No reports of weapons being used. I believe if it was a gang initiation, weapons would have been used AND there would have probably been MORE THAN 1 person beating this girl?? Does anyone agree? But I somewhat agree about the parent making her child fight, not to handle her own, but because she was probably only 30 yrs old the most, GHETTO and won’t nobody gone WHUP HER CHILD!!! :)
It is unlikely it was a gang activity, but shouldn’t immediately be ruled out, gang initiations often require a taping, are premeditated and involve onlookers, so it meets several criteria that would be a part of gang activity. But,there are parents today that initiate their children to fight someone, to be sure they can handle themselves and know how to fight. It is more likely a parent making a child fight than a gang recruiting a new member.
I don’t care if it was an animal, a child, an adult or a three-headed green alien, the very idea that adults stood and watched as a young person displayed violence (against anything) is outrageous. Fights like this are far worse than fights in school years ago, do you not read anything??? Bullying and violent fights have increased in every demographic teenage group be them black or white, rich or poor, living in the big scary city or the safe cozy county. Fights used to happen because kids disagreed and fought about it, fights today are about looking at somebody the wrong way, saying hi to somebody’s boy or girlfriend or any number of equally stupid reasons. They are more violent and are premeditated at an historically high rate and its scary. Our young people know only violence to solve problems and unless intervention/prevention programs are supported, its a scary future for them.
This is a sick and ugly event and it is time that someones butt is thrown in jail. Some folks have sick, evil and twisted minds and it is not a good thing for them to have access to the internet. A beating can cause a traumatic brain injury and guess who’s stuck with caring for this person THE FAMILY. YEH…DROP THEIR BUTTS IN JAIL AND THROW AWAY THE KEY. I am so sick of this ugly stuff. You want to fight take your butt to Iraq and fight so our hard working soldiers can come back home and enjoy their family. Little Miss Street Fighters trade places with them for eighteen months. I bet you would wake up quick and follow the straight and narrow road.
Actually I do think that anyone who resorts to violence be it against an animal or human to prove how big and tough of a person they are is depraved. I also feel that those who do so need some mental counseling to help them deal with their issues be it anger, insecurity or low self esteem.
I also don’t think this article give all of the facts in this case. I have unanswered questions after reading such as was the young lady who was beaten just minding her own business and was attacked or was a fight scheduled for after school and she was a willing participant until the other girl got the better of her. If the later then all the of those who participated need couseling and not just the ones being arrested.
As for the “adults” who may have been present, shame on you. You should not have been egging them on and you should have picked up the phone and immediately called police. If one of the adults was the lady with the child on her hip, she needs to think about her child and where her child might end up if she herself doesn’t change her ways.
I think my point has been made. Had the girl who was beaten been an animal, there would be no excuse for this. We would have numerous comments about the depravity of the people doing the beating and watching.
i think that there are a lot of valid points to many of the posts here…not all of them, but many of them…but one of the consistent themes seems to be sensationalism….i think that reading this post, many people should get a better understanding of what is really going on…while it may be gang related, it is highly doubtful…highly, highly doubtful…more than likely, you had a couple of immature people that were trying to pass off as adults, instigating a fight between adolescents AND with society’s fascination on everything that is negative, a lot of sensationalism was added to the incident via the internet, thus adding fuel to the fire….if you look at all of the ‘news’ around you, unless it is provocative, negative, or just plain tawdry, most people have no use for it lol…..but once again, society is enamored with the immoral behavior of people and the advancements of technology do not help the situation at all, if anything, the negative behavior is only augmented…..‘sexting” in school? why are they doing it? becuz of society’s fascination with readily available sorry entertainment
I am only 25 and when I was in middle school, kids fought and it didn’t mean they were being introduced to a gang. So badger, that sarcasm is really unnecessary when you think about what YOU are saying! If they were being introduced into a gang, would they have REALLY taped it??? And even if so, I doubt this had anything to do with being in a gang, it was just a school fight. Lord, kids can’t do anything anymore. At least it was not GUNS!!!
The youngins do this all the time. Schedule a fight for the last day of school to see who gets the best of who. Now back in the day it wasn’t a big deal, but now they want to press charges?? Geez, at least there was not any guns being pulled. Kids fight, so what. Yea it shouldn’t have been posted on youtube, but I’m sure the girl who got beat already knew what was up when she planned the fight, cuz I know it didn’t just happen out of no where. Now if she had beat the girl, it wouldn’t have been such a big deal…
