A man was robbed in Richmond's Fan District last night but was uninjured.

The man told police he was approached about 9:55 p.m. in the 2100 block of Grove Avenue by two males -- one with a handgun, the other with a knife, Capt. Dave Martin said.

One of the robbers told the victim to give them everything, and he surrendered a wallet, cell phone and iPod before complying with their demand that he run from the scene, Martin said.

Anyone with information can contact Crime Stoppers at (804) 780-1000.

The other reason you may not get a great detailed description is because most people have trouble remembering those things when they’ve been scared half to death by these creeps.  Victims tend to look at the guns and knives, adrenaline takes over and blocks part of the brain’s function.  It’s called survival mode.  It’s also why victims who are armed and have to shoot people tend to unload the whole clip of the gun and shoot several times.  It’s not cruelty, revenge or anger, it’s fear that runs the show.

Did it ever occur to some of you that perhaps at the time this story was published, the police had not yet released a physical description of the suspects.  Either way what does “[insert race here], male, 20-30, 5"10, 170-190lbs, wearing jeans and a tshirt” tell you?  With out a picture or some kind of obvious indicator (like a face tattoo or prominent scar) you aren’t going to know who it is anyways.  There are dozens of males that would fit that generic description.

Better descriptions of the suspects would be helpful, and other relevant information, such as leads, when did police arrive, et cetera.  As is, this article leaves the reader with more questions than answers, although I am sure local residents are glad to learn that this happened as oppose to being unaware.

I just love how someone is accosted by two dudes with a knife and a gun and the media reports this as “no injuries.“  If anyone has ever been through this, even with no shots fired or stabs to the gut, the emotional toll can be tough.  Trust in your fellow human is impacted.  The victim is probably going to change his routine to not put himself in that situation again. No injuries?  Give me a break.

Ditto the comments about descriptions. Ridiculous. What a waste of space.

How about more of a description other than 2 males

Great descriptions :banghead:!

This is an example of why I am reading less and less here - its nearly worthless.

These PC perp descriptions are making me sick. What a joke. If they’re white…SAY THEY’RE WHITE! If they’re freakin black, then SAY THEY’RE BLACK! Any description of clothes, height, weight, distinguishing features???? Come on TD, You can do better. Don’t bow down to the leftist PC police!

Two males, one with a knife, the other with a gun.

Care to give us a bit more description on the suspects, Times-Dispatch?
