Henrico man found dead; stepson charged

A Sandston-area man was found dead at his home Tuesday, and Henrico County police have charged his stepson with killing him.

Cecil Colley, 71, was found at about 8 a.m. on the kitchen floor of his house in the 5600 block of Old Elko Road by a co-worker, Henrico police Lt. Doug Perry said. Colley had "obvious signs of trauma to his body," Perry said.

The co-worker had gone to the home after Colley didn't show up for work or answer telephone calls, Perry said.

Colley's stepson, Troy W. Hanvey, 45, of the 2300 block of Yarnell Road, also in eastern Henrico, was arrested a few hours later and charged with first-degree murder in Colley's death.

Hanvey also was charged with two counts of felony domestic assault in attacks against his teenage son the day before, Perry said.

According to a search warrant, two police officers who responded to Hanvey's home Monday "observed a smoldering fire in the back. In the pit was a partially burned wallet with a driver's license" belonging to Colley.

Police were told Hanvey had bleach poured onto his body earlier that night, according to a search warrant.
