North Richmond homicide victim identified
Police have identified a man whose body was found Saturday night in a North Richmond alley.
About 8:20 p.m., police received a call about a person down in an alleyway between Monteiro and Lamb avenues in the Southern Barton Heights area. They arrived to find Kernard T. Bowling Jr., 38, unresponsive with gunshot wounds.
Bowling, of the 2000 block of Cleary Road in Henrico County, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.
Last night, victim advocate Alicia Rasin said that Bowling was a practicing Muslim whose body was found near the Masjid on North Avenue where he worshipped.
Bowling was employed by Supervalu and was the father of five children. Rasin said that Bowling's wife, Dawn, went into labor Sunday morning when she learned of her husband's death. The family was at VCU Medical Center last night awaiting arrival of the baby, a boy.
Police ask anyone with information about Bowling's death to call Crime Stoppers at (804) 780-1000.
