UPDATE: Hopewell police identify slaying victim
A Hopewell man was fatally shot early today outside a home in the 100 block of South 16th Avenue in Hopewell, police said. The victim, Mitchell McBee, 27, was taken just before 3 a.m. to John Randolph Medical Center in Hopewell, then to VCU Medical Center in Richmond. He died about 5:12 a.m., police said. The state Medical Examiner’s Office in Richmond said McBee died of a gunshot wound to the abdomen. Hopewell police spokesman Lt. Joe Sumner said officers found McBee injured after authorities received a 911 disturbance call at the South 16th Avenue address, near West City Point Road. He declined to provide additional information about the incident or say whether McBee lived at the residence. Anyone with information about McBee’s death is asked to call Hopewell police at (804) 541-2284.
