UPDATE: Richmond carjacking victim was run over
A person was assaulted and run over in a carjacking early today in Richmond's Carver neighborhood.
The extent of the victim's injuries was not immediately clear. Police did not respond to repeated requests this morning for information about the carjacking and the victim's condition, but radio alerts said the victim was assaulted, then run over.
Police were searching for two males who stole a 2002 silver Chevrolet Impala 4-door sedan.
The crime occurred at 1:16 a.m. in the 800 block of Catherine Street, about two blocks north of Virginia Commonwealth University's fine arts center.

‘dc’, i agree with you and hope that the victim is okay, however, increasing VCU’s police presence isn’t the answer..a campus police department? well, honestly speaking, they aren’t the most effective poilce department in the city and they need to stick to what they do best and not overstep their boundaries, stay and MCV and deal with the immediate campus..let RPD and their connections with the community along with their various departments handle most of the crimes in the area…and Welshwoman….idk wtf you are talking about lol….i take it you didn’t vote for our current president because you sound like a lot of the detractors of our current administration, spewing forth a bunch of nonsense and rhetoric…socialist society lol…stop reading so deep into stuff..what you fail to realize is that these people that commited these crimes would do it regardless of the type of society that they are living in…..how in the world you made this into a political issue is beyond me….carjackers taking away our rights? lol i dont think so….i exercise my right to bear arms and i encourage others to do the same….especially when i drive lol..everyone isn’t becoming so ‘liberal’...there is simply a change in the order right now…and i honestly dont believe that anyone is minimizing anyone’s ‘bad behavior’...there is chaos all over the world right now in case you haven’t noticed…socialist, communist, monarchies….everywhere across the globe, there is chaos…you said for america to wake up…they should’ve awaken when the past administration cheated to become the president…that should’ve been a clue then that the government was corrupt..and you want to complain about the current administration…get over it, itz done, he’s the president lol.
“chaos like you see in other “socialist countries” where people have no rights and fight every day for what we have that is now being taken away…..wake up America.“

The carjackers are taking away our rights. Or are you saying the socialists are fighting carjackers every day? Do we need more police to fight Carver’s socialist carjackers? What if the “victim” here was really a socialist, and it was the police whose rights the carjacker was fighting for, what then?!?!
You will never have enough police to protect everyone. You need to be able to protect yourself and stop thinking someone else has to take care of it for you all the time. Everyone whines about the police picking on them all the time but you have to realize with everyone becoming so liberal minded and minimizing everyone’s bad behavior you will wind up with chaos like you see in other “socialist countries” where people have no rights and fight every day for what we have that is now being taken away…..wake up America.
I do hope the victim is alright. This area is still in transition. Years ago, this same area was totally infested with drug dealers and crime. As VCU grew, developers eyed this area as the property values were low and the potential for profit was huge. Now, that the chickens have been moved into the wolves’ den, VCU needs to step-up their police presence in these “transitional areas”, even if it means putting more money towards their policing efforts. Richmond police should stress that VCU needs to do this as this point of conflict is directly related to the school’s growth.
