A 21-year-old man being sought in Sunday's shooting of a 10-year-old boy in the Whitcomb Court public-housing complex has surrendered to Richmond police.

Capt. Linda Samuel said Daniel L. Gainyard of the 1300 block of Selma Lane in Richmond turned himself in late last night.

At this stage, Gainyard is considered a person of interest and has not been charged with any crimes.

Police said Gainyard may have information about the shooting that wounded Trequan Bugg, a fourth-grader at Fairfield Court Elementary School. Trequan was shot in the head in the 2300 block of Ambrose Street about 12:35 a.m. as he arrived home with his mother from a visit to his grandmother's home.

Richmond police said Trequan, who was originally listed in critical condition at VCU Medical Center, is improving.
